About US Farm Network
Bad Time to be Starting A Farm Newspaper? With the farm economy in the dumper, this may indeed be "bad timing" for a farm–oriented business start up. However, information becomes even more important and valuable when things are tight, and that is the basic business we have been in for over 25 years. Publishing information you cannot get anywhere else, or as well anywhere else. Farmers in search of information they need to make the right decisions affecting their operation should find this newspaper and the associated web site a valuable tool. We intend to be a valuable resource in the use of computers and the Internet to bring your operation in to the new century. We have spent six months putting together a farm Internet site that can be the key for you to unlock the valuable resources there to help your operation stay in business and flourish. (Basic portion in operation in September.) The new newspaper will be the Ag reference guide for net users and bring summaries and highlights of information that is on the net to non–users. We are not basically an advertising "mail–to–everyone" farm advertising shopper; we are an information "network–paid–for" newsletter and free web edition that will both carry some targeted advertising. Classified Advertising is free and we will shape the newspaper and the web site from your feedback and suggestions. Because we are just getting started, nothing here is yet set in concrete. We will look forward to hearing from you. We also sold 5 of our low power TV stations around the country and now publish 3 monthly newspaper distributed in newsracks in 10 states. We have the worlds longest paper route (over 6,000 miles monthly) and should be in the book of world records. This newspaper was started to mesh in with the distribution of other midwest newspaper, Solo RFD, now 14 years old and distributed primarily in Interstate Highway rest stops and in front of small town post offices. We have helped establish and maintain first amendment free press right to distribute newpapers on US post office and Highway rest stop sidewalks. Having been forced to Federal court in 17 cases. (pro se without an attorney) and have prevailed in several cases that were won in the US Court of appeals, thereby setting a precedent that allows other newspapers the same access rights to distribute via newsracks in these areas. The post office case for example took over 6 long years and we are again going back in with contempt charges in some small towns to force compliance with our first press rights and the court orders. We are the only farm publication that we can find that is distributed this way in a wide area, and are now well aware that the pioneers get the arrows.
